                         The Eyes of the Walker

In the early years of Delve's founding, there was a guard known as Zalo Saosarni who quickly rose to power amongst his peers in our esteemed military force. Zalo quickly claimed the title of Seneschal, and set about what many had hoped would be a glorious era for our esteemed city. An Utari of questionable parentage and climes, Zalo surpassed the cruel fate of many Utari soldiers at that time with his stalwart stance on crime within the city and security.

It was then, in the depths of winter, that we saw Zalo's true nature. The Dockland District had frozen over in the winter and the scum that inhabitated the hellhole had spilled out onto the streets from their dark dens of filth and iniquity, calling for aide and work in the frigid months. Riots began to spill out and into the Exchange with the Docklands workers tearing apart market stalls and shopfronts.

As any of the watch will say nowadays--it was foolish for Zalo Saosarni to assume martial law, to assume the role of judge, jury, and executioner and to slaughter the poor of Delve. For Zalo's closest officers rode into the Docklands, striking down any and all who roamed the streets. Zalo slew hundreds with his officers, cutting head from body and leaving many more gravely injured in his murderous wake. In the dawn, the grisly work was seen and done--Zalo had slain citizens who had hoped to flee the rioters, only to leap into the jaws of death where they once saw hope. Citizens called for Zalo himself to be cut down, but he was nowhere to be found in the chill morning air. The Council ordered for the Utari to be captured and put to trial.

Some hours later, when Zalo was found in the the yard stripped naked and grasping two pistols in hand, it was noted that he had gouged out his own eyes and screamed that the dreams would no longer haunt him, that the Walker had no more use for him. That the god with the dark eyes would no longer await him in his dreams. Zalo then took a flintlock pistol to his head and blew his brains out across the flagstones.
