Formerly the stewards of the Elemental realms, the Magi were splintered into the rival agencies of the Ascendril and Sciomancer guilds. The process, which revealed to the greater world the long-forgotten sixth element of Shadow, has left a lasting legacy of conflict where once the advocacy of pure knowledge was paramount.

Skillsets: Elementalism, Crystalism, Enchantment

History:

Before the Magi, a group known as the Naldareth were the masters of the elements. They created the Master Crystal and used ourobori for Enchantment. When the Grand Artifice wiped the memories of mortal and immortal alike, their greater knowledge was lost, but their hall in Shallam and their artifacts remained. It was a woman named Ariela who put together the pieces and began teaching those who would begin the new generation of mages. She became the Magi Guild's tutor and would remain thus for the life of the guild.

The early magi soon outgrew their interest in Shallam and sought a less restrictive location to seek their ambitions, finally settling on Tasur'ke as their ideal spot due in part to it's local oyster population and distance from any cities, as at that time, Spinesreach was still unknown. The Guildmaster, Belgarion, made a deal with an imp named Greckle to move the hall to its new location. The Magi paid the imp the gold it requested, but they had been tricked. Rather than move the hall to Tasur'ke, the imp sent it flying to random locations about sapience. This unique guildhall and the freedom from being restricted by the laws of any city would allow for the guild to become a neutral force in the realm. The members eventually could be found sitting on every ruling council in the realm.

Some time later Ariela brought a group of Magi to a secret room in the hall to show them the Progressive Enchantments, among them, a jar. She explained that when she first became aware after the Grand Artifice she found herself sitting with the jar in her lap, but had no idea what any of them did. After some failed experiments with the jar it was discovered that shaking it would give the experience of a memory that was stored inside. Through this enchantment the Magi learned a few things about the group which had predated them and that Ariela had once been one of them. Afterward she would change her name back to what it had once been: Alaihandra.
