The world of Aetolia consists, as far as its denizens currently know, of a single planet made up of several massive landmasses, known as regions. Used in the game's context, a region shares similarities with a plane, especially in that players cannot see players on another continents or islands, or communicate with them in any way but messaging or letters.
Regions of Aetolia
- The main landmass of Aetolia, and notably the (current) largest, this is where most of the activity and content of the game resides.
- A small island off the west coast of Sapience, accessible by a ferry in Scidve Cove. Said to be the residence of a fearsome dragon.
- A tropical island east of Sapience, in the Beryl Sea. Ulangi is home to the grook and horkval. It can be reached from the ferry just outside of Delos.
- A freezing glacier, reached from the ferry in the Southern Tundra. It is home to a number of fearsome magical creatures and is extremely dangerous.
- A massive, uncharted continent, confirmed to be much larger than Sapience. Notably home of the Drakkenmont Empire, its reaches are still being explored and charted by Sapient citizens.
Mechanical Ramifications
When arriving on a region, players are deposited into a non-instanced, segregated portion of the game, with its own maps, channels, and more. Certain limitations are put into effect while on a region apart from others:
- Most forms of communication are impossible. Players may speak on clans and other public channels as normal, but will not be heard by players in other regions, nor will they hear what those players are saying. Using orgtells (CTELLS, GTELLS, etc.) will show all messages, regardless of region.
- Players can receive messages and letters as normal.
- Cross-area transportation skills ([Lust Tarot], [Deliver], [Track] etc.) do not function if the target is in another region.
- Players in other regions usually cannot be seen on Who Lists, though occasionally Gods can be seen, and some skills may erroneously indicate the presence of earthmelded Vampires.
