As Unguk, the son of the tribe elder watched, a pair of young tribesmen
uncovered something remarkable. Beneath the soil of the Savannah was
hidden a massive sphere of smooth glass which seemed filled with a
strange liquid. It also emanated a dark power, which was sensed by two
of the Deities of the realm.

Niuri, Goddess of Mystery took the chance as an opportunity to study a
relic of the past. At the same time, the dark energy within brought
Rahn, the Lightbringer to purify its evil.

Elegnem, the Shaman of the Tomacula tribe found herself possessed of a
strange power as she begin to approach the sphere, and soon she decided
that the power within it would be better used in her own hands. By
focusing her will through the sphere, Elegnem created a shield of
supernatural durability. The powers of Rahn and Niuri were forced out of
the village and by some amazing talent, They were unable to force their
way through the shield.

Sekhtet, the Aakhut of Niuri and Willem, Rahn's High Priest were able to
enter the shield, and placed on either end of the village a pair of
magical censers. Each god believed that if the shield could be lowered,
They could once again reach the object. As Elegnem's strength was pushed
to its limit, her magic began to solidify into a sphere of magical
energy that could be placed into one of the two censers.

Some time later, Elegnem collapsed, and as she did, Niuri found that She
could again enter the sphere. The servants of the Lady of Mystery had
broken Elegnem's shield. A strange afterimage of Elegnem's power
remained in the air and held the Lightbringer away from the village.

Safe in her solitude, Sekhtet summoned the power of Niuri and stepped up
to the strange glass object. While a number of excited people watched,
Sekhtet began to channel Niuri's strength into the object, hoping to
learn what it was and what it contained.

With a sharp crack through the air, the sphere broke where Sekhtet
touched it. Shards of glass were not all that flew from the opening
however, and a cloud of dark gas formed into a host of monstrous
creatures which proved nearly impossible to kill as the defenders fought
bravely against them.

Furious at His inability to enter the shield, the Lord of Fire spread
His will across the Savannah. The people of Tomacula had chosen to
forsake His purification, and now the darkness from within the sphere
was escaping. With His mighty strength, Lord Rahn set a massive blaze
across the Savannah, slaying the creatures and purifying the plains in a
blast of smoke and heat.

Deep within the village the energy that Rahn set upon the Savannah
struck the massive spherical object and intensified. The glass ball
shattered into thousands of pieces and an incredible power shot clear of
it. Sekhtet, Willem and a number of Tomaculans suddenly disappeared, and
the blaze consumed the village. The Savannah was ripped apart by a pulse
of massive earthquakes, and its face was changed forever.

The people of Tomacula found themselves set beneath a massive stone in
the middle of a vast scrubland. Unguk, the son of the Tomaculan tribal
elder stepped up to assume his position as elder. To mark their change,
the suffering they received because of the hubris of Elegnem, and their
new location, Unguk renamed the tribe. Thus, the Mitrine people came to
settle beneath the Mitrine stone. He named the scrubland Liruma, which
meant "Humility" in the ancient Tomaculan, now Mitrine, tongue. In the
southwest, the power that had escaped the sphere solidified within a
vast temple. For it was not the evil within the sphere that was
contained, but rather a Goddess. From the darkness was reborn Lleis,
Goddess of Renewal, and as She awoke, She again came to reside within
the temple of Pleianes in the southwest of the scrubland.

In the beginning, there was nothing but Truth and Lies within the darkness. Lleis looked upon the empty space and raised Her voice in song. The way to the Lady is through Hope; Hope in the darkest hour of the cruelest winter that the sun will rise once more, and the land will turn to bring the reprieve of spring. Hope that even as an enemy bores down on you, or slides his blade into your heart, you will rise up again and defeat him, for life goes on and the Cycle turns. All that is done is never truly finished; all that is dead will rise again.

First daughter of Varian, the Goddess Lleis once walked hand in hand with Her brothers, Haern and Dhar. However, in a final act of sacrifice, the essence of Lleis was ripped apart by the corruption of Dendara, purging that plane of what ailed it and bringing a final resurgence of life to the Great Oak of Duiran.

Lleis presided over the Life of Sapience granting the gift of Birth and Rebirth, the promise of new life after death. From the Tear to the fungi sprouting from a rotting log, the Goddess of Renewal found a purpose for all living things. Now, the burden of Renewal falls to the Hunter and Underking.

History

Lleis was created by Varian, the Celestine, shortly after the birth of Severn and Lanos in the Age of Creation. She was formed as part of a Triad that represented the Cycle of life and death - Haern and Dhar were Her brothers.
