The Demon Blade, also known as the Sword of the Troll King, is a legendary artifact weapon forged in prehistory by the Dowaf, Moghedu, Indoron, Shadowbound or some combination of all of the above; all that is known for sure is that it was crafted to cage things that would not die in an inescapable prison.

Origin

Although the methods of forging and the forgers themselves are entirely unknown in the modern era, it is known that the Demon Blade first emerged in the distant south of Sapience, likely at the hands of Dowaf or Moghedu forgers working for another party. It was original designed to chain the souls of the undead, but grew in power and hunger with each blow struck, eventually overpowering the mind of the wielder with bloodthirst and berserker rage. Due to the nature of the weapon, the caged souls within the sword fed their hate and pain to the holder, empowering them while destroying the boundaries of their sanity.

In ancient times

The Demon Blade carved a bloody path through the Wars of Power and beyond, serving as a bane against the undead and elementals alike. Through the endless civil conflicts splitting El'Jazira and the Mhojave Desert, it eventually found its way north to Hashan, where it was taken up by the line of the Troll Kings as a symbol of their rule and the glory of Trollkind. This came to an end abruptly with the breaking and subsequent burying of the Blade, which in turn led to the Demon Blade being lost to mortal hands for several centuries.

In modern times

Upon recovery by Dwarf slaves in Bloodloch, the Blade was secreted away to Enorian and eventually reforged by Dorin Silverbeard and his compatriot, Trabarg the Archaeologist. Immediately upon reforging, the Blade was stolen once again, this time by Consanguine agents, and returned to Hashan, sparking a bloody and vicious conflict. This civil war was ended spectacularly by the intervention of Gar'losha, an agent of Chaos tenuously associated with the Blade, who plunged the weapon into his own heart, returning to the dead heart of the Chaos plane and taking the accursed weapon with him.

At some point immediately prior to the fall of Hashan, the Blade was recovered from Chaos by Juxa Steelhew, directly leading to the events of the Steelhew War and the eventual chaining of the Blade within Rahn's volcano.
