The Nightmare's Eye is a religious figurehead of the order of Omei. One of five roles comprising the "hand" of Her order, the Eye watches the world, ensuring nothing escapes the Nightmare's notice. Speaking pragmatically, this veritable high priest of Omei functions as a high-level bureaucrat for the order, performing any roles when needed, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the sect.
As decreed by the goddess, he or she who sees, speaks and lives most clearly in Her name is named Her Eye. The title is a literal piece of legend - upon choosing a new figurehead, Omei claims their eyes for Her own, keeping, destroying or doing with them as She sees fit. They then wear Her eyes in their place.
The eyes of Omei are an example of a living, organic artifact, more of a holy symbol than a necessary organ. They are a sharp, vivid purple color, impossible or uncommon in most races, and share a sorcerous, empathic quality with many Omeiian relics: their natural light strengthens or dims in the presence of emotion. The more powerful the ambient feelings around the eyes, the brighter they become.
